Climate

Kenya enjoys a wonderful tropical climate. The average annual temperatures in this region of the Indian Ocean coastline are around 28°C. In general, weather at the coast is warm and equatorial with year round sunshine. Temperatures rarely drop below 21°C, with the highest around 32°C during the winter months Dec-Feb, which are generally drier and warmer. This ideally reverses the cold European winters, since at this time Watamu is sunny with warm coastal waters suitable for swimming, fishing, sailing and other watersports.

The warm temperatures make this region the suitable habitat for tropical vegetation: coconut palm trees grow along the shores and there are still some patches of ancient tropical rainforest, as well as mangoes, cashew nuts, papayas, avocados and passion fruit.
