Kenya's tourism performance in recent years has recorded a significant improvement, recording a 10.2% increase in 2006. The growth has been attributed mainly to the improved air capacity provided by most major airlines flying into the destination and the aggressive marketing campaigns implemented in new and traditional source markets. Total tourism earnings for 2006 increased by 15% from US $ 652 million (ksh. 48.9 billion) in 2005 to US $ 770 million (ksh. 56.2 billion) translating into a massive upward shift of 55% over 2006 There was also an improvement in the market performance with the UK cluster maintaining its leading position in 2006 with air and sea arrivals. This growth is expected to continue in 2008 following the announcement by Virgin Atlantic to introduce daily flights from London to Nairobi on 1st June 2007.
