spectacular Pride of Kenya Gala Dinner and Auction in the presence of
Hon Dr. Noah Wekesa, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife.
2009 is a very special year. Not only is it the year that saw 50 stunning Pride
of Kenya lions fire the imagination of Nairobi’s citizens in the biggest public
wildlife art event the city has ever seen, but it also marks the Born Free
Foundation’s Silver Anniversary. It is 25 years since Virginia McKenna and
Bill Travers established the Foundation, following their starring roles in the
classic film ‘Born Free’. Today, led by their son Will, Born Free is a dynamic
international wildlife charity, devoted to conservation and animal welfare.
The Pride of Kenya Gala Dinner and Auction will be a unique celebration
of Kenya’s wildlife heritage and 25 years of the Born Free Foundation. It will
also, importantly, be an evening to raise funds to help conserve and protect
Kenya’s lions in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service.
Commemorating the Born Free
Foundation’s 25th Anniversary
Join Virginia McKenna OBE and other special guests for a unique evening
Funds raised on the night will support Born Free Foundation
and KWS work with lions in Kenya!

This project is dubbed Pride of Kenya has been running since April this year and we are almost getting to the grand finale . The project was specifically meant to coincide with our 25th anniversary and it was only appropriate that it focuses on lions. We have 50 fibre glass lion sculptures made , 50 corporate sponsors for them at Kes 200,000 each. Each blank lion was then spruced up by an artist from a pool of artist who had applied to be part of the project. We had a street launch on the 2nd of September at the KWS and embarked on a 8 week street exhibition where the sculptures were displayed at various malls and the CBD in Nairobi.
The street exhibition ended on Sunday the 25th October and the lions are now in storage being touched up before the Gala Auction and Dinner on the 6th November which is also Born Free’s 25th Anniversary celebration. Bidding is already going on and you can bid on the night or send your silent bid to pridofkenya@bornfree.or.ke or alice@bornfree.or.ke. Bidding starts at Kes 250,000 per lion and the whole gallery can be viewed on our website www.prideofkenya.co.ke
